NOME SCHOOLHOUSE

NOME, ND

The Nome Schoolhouse, located in rural North Dakota, is a remarkable example of adaptive reuse and historic preservation. Built in 1916 and closed in 1970, the school was thoughtfully restored in 2021 as a vibrant fiber arts retreat center, event venue, and boutique hotel. The architectural design preserves the building’s historic character while integrating modern amenities, including a fully operational fiber mill, event space, boutique hotel, and seasonal camping accommodations.

Honored for its innovation, the project has received several awards, including the Economic Diversification Award, Trailblazer Award for Tourism Innovation, Richard H. Driehaus Foundation National Preservation Award, and the Excellence in Historic Preservation Award. The project has been featured in numerous televised programs, including the Bloomberg TV Series ‘World’s Greatest’..
